Adapted by Jonah Salz from award-winning novelist Sawanishi Yūten’s short story, Under an Umbrella, In the Rain is a dense, image-rich meditation on ecological and manmade catastrophe, survivor’s guilt, and loneliness. Developed in the Covid era, the playscript will be performed in Japanese, with one English performance Sept 24th. This illustrated scenario contains short essays by the director, novelist, and actor, and photographs from previous performances and rehearsals.
